While Michael Jackson’s Black or White isn’t so much about race, the song points to a larger problem: a battle for property around the world.
It’s a turf war on a global scale
I’d rather hear both sides of the tale
See, it’s not about races
Just places, faces
Ironically, in one scene, Michael Jackson is seen dancing with Native Americans, because Native Americans, for the most part, lost all their property in the US ie. estates. See, Native Americans once had all the land ie property rights in today’s legal lingo, but due to colonization, a fight that rages on everywhere to this day, Native Americans ended up with only a right to occupy the land-something only property law really teaches you. Meanwhile, the colonizer gave his family estates in the US that last forever as countries continue to kill and go to war for more land ie property/estates-see Russia and Ukraine.
To drive home the point about Native Americans and property, one only needs to think of a simple land conveyance. For example, a Native American might give somebody a life estate. However, if that somebody dies, the Native American will get the property back. That being said, the Native American’s simple conveyance is two separate tax transactions which occur at different times in order to get around paying lots of tax.
Additionally, Michael Jackson touches on racism in the US. In one scene, the KKK are seen burning crosses, symbols of racial hatred, but what is really interesting is that in the 1930s the KKK had members in Congress. Hugo Black, a Justice of the Supreme Court, too, was a KKK member at this time-no wonder anti-lynching bills couldn’t get little support in Congress at this time.
