The End Of Sid And Nancy

Here’s a great ending to the movie “Sid And Nancy,” which is about punk rocker Sid Vicious and Nancy Spugden.

As Sid Vicious walks on the New York train tracks , wind blows and the fog covers the top of the city sky scrappers in the background. He’s walking alone and nobody’s around.

In the distance, Sid sees a pizza place. He enters the joint. He’s sitting at a table. He starts eating pizza.

While eating horrible pizza, Sid hears music and goes outside. Some black kids start saying, “Yo Sid, you want to dance with us? Why don’t you stop being stuck up. Come on, man. Stop being so stuck up.” Sid replies, “I don’t want to dance with no little kids.”

On second thought, Sid decides to dance with the kids while KC And The Sunshine Band’s “Get Down Tonight” plays in the background. As they dance, Sid’s taxi ride arrives. You can see the glow of the taxi’s headlights on the old broken cars.

Perhaps, KC’s song was added for broader reasons at the end of this movie. For example, the producers of this movie may of wanted to signal the end of the punk era and the beginning of the disco era. Maybe, it was just a good dance song for the movie. We can only guess the reasons, but it sounds nice for an ending

Anyways, in the back of the taxi, Nancy Spugden, Sid’s dead girlfriend, sits. As she looks out at Sid, she smiles.

Though like some strange premonition, Sid looks in the window and sees his reflection. He gets in the taxi. Sid and Nancy leave for heaven like the song’s lyrics. Now, the fog is clearing.

While the taxi drives away, we hear the kids in the background. They’re yelling, “Yo, Sid, you don’t even know what you’re doing! Thanks for having a dance with us!” They chase after the taxi.

As the credits of the movie come to an end, the captions reads: “Sid Vicious died of a heroin overdose on February 2nd 1979. Nancy and Sid. R.I.P”

It’s a nice ending to a sad and tragic situation. Finally, Sid’s reunited with his girlfriend Nancy. She’s cleaned up and drug free. And they both take a final trip to heaven.
