On Thursday, November 3, 2016, at 1 a.m, I checked out Selena Gomez’ “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” which I watched before, but always gets me.

No matter what you do, bad relationships can make you crazy as if things weren’t bad enough.

“I know I’m acting a bit crazy. Strung out, a little bit hazy,” laments Gomez.

Similarly, bad relationships can torture you, which is never good.

“You got me scattered in pieces. Shining like stars and screaming. Lighting me up like Venus. But then you disappear and make me wait,” desperately says Gomez.

Quite frankly, who doesn’t want to make it out of a bad relationship even if only to survive.

“Hand over heart, I’m praying. That I’m gonna make it out alive,” sings Gomez.

Furthermore, cheaters make you wonder if you have a future.

“The bed’s getting cold and you’re not here. The future that we hold is so unclear,” Gomez insists.

Consequently, nobody wants to hear the truth because it hurts.

“Save your advice ’cause I won’t hear. You might be right but I don’t care,” confesses Gomez.

However, we never use our heads and just follow our hearts even though the heart is treacherous.

“There’s a million reasons why I should give you up. But the heart wants what it wants. The heart wants what it wants,” regrets Gomez.

Unfortunately, just like fairy tale, good relationships tend to not exist.

“This is a modern fairy tale. No happy endings. No wind in our sails,” admits Gomez.

Strangely, I got another feeling about the above lyrics. To me, anyways, the artist isn’t just singing about a bad relationship, but she is singing about God, too. In these modern times, there is no happy endings, which sounds like the last days of this world. Also, the “wind in the sails part” lyric is about not having God’s spirit to carry you. I could be off about these parts of the lyrics, but they seem to be about something else too; namely, God. Plus, the song is about having a heart, which is basically what God wants.

In the end, you can have a breakdown.

“But I can’t imagine a life without. Breathless moments. Breaking me down, down, down, down,” reveals Gomez.

Maybe, too, the artist feels like she is being forced to make a terrible decision. She must give up her God, but she can’t do that because such a future only ends in death. But she’s dying anyways.
