VIDEOIn the song, Eddie sings about the coming end of the world.
“See the writing on the wall. Ivory tower’s bound to fall,” sighs Eddie.
Apparently, there’s going to be a lot of suffering. “Voices whisper in the wind. I can hear them calling,” Eddie sorrowfully sings, “Ooh, ooh, Fire. Ooh, ooh, Fire.” And there will be lots of pain.
As with all destruction, there is fire; however, this is a good fire.
“Love is a fire, burning. And I want to burn,” cries Eddie.
Soon, a season in hell will be over.
“Darkest hour before the dawn. Times we know will soon be gone. Flames of freedom fill the air. I can hear them calling,” Eddie tells us.
Finally, Eddie ends with the chaos of the world.
“Can you see the light. Can you hear the Sound. Can you feel this whole world turning around,” as Eddie fades away.
In summary, A Season In Hell was ahead of it’s time for the 1960s. That being said, Eddie Wilson, too, was ahead of his time, and he knew where music was heading. As you listen to the song, you could tell it was different from other songs of the 1960s and belonged in the 1980s.
