One Thing Is For Certain: Things Will Get Worst

Alright, so what do we get when we “read between the lines” of the latest U.S. election? Well, for one, it’s like signing up for a contest where the prize might be a fantastic new target on your back. And yes, if you’re lucky, you too could find yourself swept into the whirlwind of political violence—or at least spend your time dodging a hailstorm of internet conspiracies with your name plastered all over them.

If you’re really lucky, you’ll become a meme. Maybe you’ll be the latest headline in the underground network of misinformation machines, while thousands of sites get rich off tales about you that are so strange, you’ll find yourself asking, “Wait, did I actually do that?”

Then there’s the real kicker: the winner is just as scary as the loser. Think about it—no matter who comes out on top, it’s like choosing between a rock and a hard place… except both the rock and the hard place want to run your life. Between the “free” speech monitored by algorithms and political parties who treat big issues—war, violence, poverty—like fashion trends they’ll come back to “next season,” we’re left to watch the circus unfold. In the end, whoever wins, we’re all just characters in the show.
