Here’s the story lines of Mr. Robot’s season 2 finale. First, Darlene cites the Fifth Amendment when interrogated by FBI field agents. Also, Fsociety is labeled ”domestic terrorists” and ”enemy combatants” in regards to the Patriot Act. Plus, FBI agent Dom is lonely, so she talks to Alexa as if the AI was a real person. Further, Evil Corp is attempting to rebuild their database. These are just the main stories of the season 2 finale of Mr. Robot.

It’s one thing to question your mind. It’s another to question your eyes and ears. But then again, isn’t it all the same, our senses just mediocre inputs for our brain? Come on. Sure, we rely on them, trust they accurately portray the real world around us, but what if the haunting truth is, they can’t? That what we perceive isn’t the real world at all but just our mind’s best guess? That all we really have is a garbled reality, a fuzzy picture we will never truly make out.

During this segment, Darlene is picked up by the FBI. The FBI interrogates Darlene, but she cites the Fifth Amendment, which is a constitutional right against self incrimination. Darlene remains silent in the FBI interrogation.

In response to Darlene’s silence, the FBI cites the Patriot Act. The Patriot act, a law signed by President George Bush and a majority Republican Congress, gives the FBI the authority to treat Darlene as an ”enemy combatant.” The FBI argues she has no rights, even though Obama is the current President.

The moth don’t care when he sees the flame. He might get burned, but he’s in the game. And once he’s in, he can’t go back. He’ll beat at his wings, till he burns them black. No, the moth don’t care when he sees the flame… So come on, lets go. Ready or not. Cause there’s a flame I know. Hotter than hot.

In my opinion, I think the FBI field agents were incorrect about Darlene having no constitutional rights. A congressional act cannot invalidate or take away constitutional rights like the Fifth Amendment; only a constitutional convention can nullify a constitutional Amendment. Besides, the Guantanamo Bay cases say non US citizens and “enemy combatants” have US constitutional rights. Moreover, under Article 6 of the US Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, constitutional amendments supersede acts of Congress, so Darlene has constitutional rights.

Darlene is too smart for the FBI. Darlene mocks FBI Dom when Dom uses FBI manual techniques. Of course, the FBI utilizes the Reid technique. However, Darlene remains cool and silent under fire.

So we sat back and waited. They call it the python approach. They’ll lie in wait for the right moment to strike. You know some can go up to a year without eating? The patient predator

During this broadcast, the FBI has labeled Fsociety ”domestic terrorists.” At least the FBI is not so bad as Russia’s FSB (Russian equivalent of FBI) who labeled the Jehovah Witnesses ”extremists” for practicing their freedom of religion, for example.

There’s a good Darlene and Dom scene where Dom says the FBI laughs at Congress. The FBI thinks it’s funny that Congress moved so fast on the day of the Washington DC bail out and hack. Much like the Supreme Court who moved fast in Gore v. Bush, Congress, too, can move fast when it wants.

We see in this broadcast that FBI agent Dom is lonely. This loneliness drives Dom to confide in Alexa, an Amazon AI personal assistant. Perhaps, Dom feels safer to confide in an AI, or she is really lonely, but this is what Dom does in order to survive in her lonely world.

Towards the end of this segment, Elliot reveals that Evil Corp is rebuilding their database:

They’re trying to rebuild the database. Title and deeds, the bloodline of all real property in this country. This is how they’re surviving the hack.

In summary, this was a great finale. Darlene was great when under fire by FBI field agents. Elliot, too, was a great leader for Fsociety. I plan to watch season 2.
