“Impulse Revisionism” episode “Seven of Hearts” skillfully combines drama and science fiction elements, presenting a complex storyline filled with moral, ethical, and personal dilemmas. This one ends scary as hell.

The episode opens with a Mennonite girl challenging Lucas’s assumptions about her community, saying, “We are not as sheltered as you think.” This line hints at the surprising depth of her community and foreshadows the revelations about characters’ secrets later in the episode.

We are introduced to Sam, a hacker who has been spying on Townes without his knowledge. This action raises significant questions about privacy violations and potentially illegal surveillance, suggesting the use of advanced monitoring technologies like Pegasus software.

Lucas faces a personal crisis when his girlfriend is accused of sexual immorality. He finds himself caught between religious and property arguments as he pleads for forgiveness from her father. This situation reveals the deep personal conflicts that underlie his actions.

Henry is being closely monitored by Clear Tech, who knows about her actions and her history with Bill Boone. Her growing suspicion towards Nikolai, whom she thinks might be associated with Clear Tech, adds a layer of tension. Henry’s distrust escalates as she challenges Nikolai’s secretive nature, fearing that his intentions might ultimately lead to her being imprisoned and studied.

Mrs. Miller, a Mennonite leader, resorts to underhanded tactics by using drugs to eliminate a rival. She justifies her actions with religious reasoning, exposing the dark underbelly of moral justifications within her community.

Sheriff Anna experiences confusion firsthand when she sees Nikolai and Henry talking in a secluded area, only to witness them disappear as they round a corner. Her search leads to nothing but further questions about what she witnessed.

In a significant confrontation, Henry calls Sheriff Anna delusional after the former sheriff admits to bugging and spying on her. Henry’s frustration and sense of betrayal culminate in her expressing that no one would believe the police over her word.
